Gocta falls, with 771 m, is the third highest in the world. There are different routes to reach it, the most popular one starts in Cocachimba to access its base. In the 5.5 km of trekking we will cross sugarcane crops with its traditional mills and enter a forest filled with clouds and trees covered with orchids, lichens and mosses.
The local guides will accompany us to explain the surrounding ecosystem as well as the history of their community and the waterfalls.
There are different trails and routes to reach Gocta falls. From “San Pablo de Valera” you can access the base of the first fall (6 Km). You can return to San Pablo or connect with the lower trail to finally reach Cocachimba (16 km in total, high difficulty, about 8 hours).
There is also the option of leaving the lodge early to see the Andean cock of the rock, the emerald toucanet and other birds, as well as being the first to arrive at the falls.

Gocta Falls - The local guides will accompany us to explain the surrounding ecosystem as well as the history of their community and the waterfalls.
Route: Gocta Lodge - Trail to the waterfall - Arrival to the base of the falls - Return
Duration: Approximately 5-6 hours.
Difficulty level: Medium to high
Includes: Entrance tickets to the waterfalls, guided tour (operated by the Cocachimba community
association) and snack box.
Travel Range: km (11 km round trip), 1.5 to 2.5 hours each way. The Community Association rents
horses to cover 2/3 of the route (the rest is on foot).
Recommendations: Boots, rain jacket or poncho, hat, binoculars, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Full day Kuelap: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays - 8 a.m.

Route: Gocta Lodge - Utcubamba river valley - Nuevo Tingo/ Cable car - Kuélap - Gocta Lodge Includes: Transportation, cable car, visit to Kuelap and lunch or box lunch.
Travel range: Transportation to the cable car + 20 to 30 minute walk to the fortress (same on the way back)
Recommendations: Boots or appropriate footwear, rain jacket or poncho, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Pills for motion sickness and / or soroche (we will reach 3,000 m.a.s.l.) for people sensitive to these factors.
Free morning and visit the Spatule-tail Hummingbird Refuge: In the village of Cocachimba, on the banks of the Cajuache creek and a short distance from Gocta Lodge is the Spatule-tailed Hummingbird Refuge. The most breathtaking of the hummingbird species, it attracts visitors from all over the world. Depending on the time of the year, the time of the visit may vary, as we will go when the hummingbird shows itself the most. Normally it will be between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. The visit lasts about a couple of hours, but can be extended if the day is nice and we decide to have a swim in the pools of the Cajuache creek. Return to the lodge.
